The Bungalow
Georgelina Veriquin and Emerson Fournier finally park the damaged Malibu in front of Chuck's joint in Saint-Basile. They could have been there much earlier, but Emerson swore he knew the neighborhood like the palm of his hand, even if he kept crossing the same train tracks for the last hour and got trapped in a dead end twice. Incidentally, that precious time lost, going around in circles, opened a space for questioning and reconsideration. With the answers he got from Georgelina, Emerson now wants his fair share of the loot for the risks he is willing to take, and that means twelve per cent, minimum. The key of the house is exactly where Chuck Three-Brothers said it would be. The smell is unbearable. Many walls are completely destroyed and the floors are covered with trash and steel jaw foothold traps are seen in every corner. Before going any further, Georgelina remembers that Chuck warned her about the multiple booby traps planted inside the residence. Chuck told his little sister to follow the itinerary he gave to her because the residence hides a large number of lethal decoys and pitfalls. Behind the wrong door, he said, there might be a loaded riffle with the trigger attached to an invisible fishing line, there might be an axe held by a severed bending spring.
Emerson locates the coveted La-Z-Boy chair first. He invokes the name of the God of Abraham three times before he scrams, both fists pressed on his mouth like if he was going to vomit a mix of nails and bolts. Georgelina understands Emerson's reaction when she sees Candy, sitting motionless on the old recliner. The young woman is colorless; a needle still stuck in her left forearm. Emerson rushes back in the home to warn Georgelina not to move or touch anything. This looks like a crime scene, just like on CSI Miami. They can forget about the money. Emerson then takes a deep breath and tells Georgelina with a lot of authority that he is going to drive them back home. Georgelina feels that it’s her citizen's duty to at least call an ambulance for the poor girl. To do so, she uses the bungalow's telephone. Emerson thinks that was a major mistake.
